Last week of season

Bitter sweet as always, getting ready to close.  One looks forward to other things in our life, but leaving Kab is so hard, especially when the weather is holding well and the big Northern are biting!!

Deb and Ken Mandt love the action of the big fish.  Ken had numerous ones last week, and this week, Deb caught and landed a 43 to 44" Northern and loved it.  She had Ken hold it for the picture.  We hope to post more of the folks in camp this week too.  There  is a picture on the gallery of the last fishing day for Ken and Deb.  It shows the net of the variety of fish they kept.  A great way to end the season.

We have a lovely family in camp this week, and it is so fun, because they love everything.  Especially the kids love the cabin, the resident dogs, the horse shoes game, exploring, just everything.  Grandma Lee, grandpa Roger and uncle John love to interact dad Aaron's kids, and it is fun to watch them.  This is a great way to end the season with the family here.

The Yaegers have arrived!  Dr. John from Maple Grove and daughter Ali from St. Paul area. They have had lots of big Walleye in the boat.  Today some nice perch.  Photos on the gallery for this week.

Also, this week our manager, Ken, caught many large Northern.  There is a picture on the photo gallery of his 39" Northern, but that was the smaller one that he saved.  Other folks have hunted grouse with some success and fish. Fun times!

Sure did cool down, but it is Sept, and then, the latter part of the week was quite warm, so a good variety.  We have some hard core fishing folks from Iowa, mostly from West Union. They seem to know where to get the fish!  Will post a picture of their nice stringer.  They are Ryan, Scott and Brian, all from West Union.  Ryan also caught a 38" Northern/12 lbs. and a 4 1/2 lb. Smallie.  Lots of fish this week!  Carla Maclean from Rochester, Mn. showed up her husband with a nice 23" Walleye.

Other folks in camp are here for the peacefulness of the Park and to soak in some of nature.  The ladies in cabin #3 loved the nature part of Voyaguers Naitonal Park.  They were island hopping to explore and swim; Captain Jeannie took her grandmother, Barb, Jean, Judy, Joan and Edy for a wonderful boat ride and down the Ash River for lunch at one of the resturants there.  A wonderful trip.   The hiking was good exercise and fun, they reported.

August 24 to 31 Week

Hot HOT HOT even way up north!  Fishing was ok in the morning most days, but the heat would get to one by mid morning and have to come in.  Plan B for many of us was the water playing, for Lake Kabetogama is wonderful for swimming!
Many times groups in camp went to islands, and jumped in and explored.  A couple of boats went down the Ash River for a trip and had lunch.  Comments are that folks are glad we have A/C in our units.

Sue conducted yoga moves on the dock in the mornings, and 3 others followed along, great way to start the day.  Family visited Ken and Deb, so it was nice that Ken laid off the yard work a few days to be with them, and with the heat, the
grass was dormant anyhow.  One of our regular guests fell ill on the way up last Saturday.  We wish them well and look forward to their return.  The dogs in camp loved going in the water after play toys, balls and the like.

On the photo gallery, note the island fun and how one guest, Sue, carried her dog in a nice bag, for on the trails, a dog must be on a leash or not allowed.  Shannon from Tx was here a couple weeks ago, and we call her to Dog Lady.  It is predicted to cool off, and that will be welcome, but this was a good week for all anyhow.  "We will return" folks are saying.

Saving the fishing for the week, Matt from Rochester, Maclean's friend, he wrestled a 23" nice walleye.  Look at his photo on our gallery and see his expression!  Thanks Matt for the picture!

We have somewhat of a quieter week this week.  We loved all the families in camp last week, and we have a lovely couple and their darling 3 yr old Faith this week.  One of our cabins has a great, fun loving, dog that loves the water and being on the boat.  There is lots of excitement around the lake with the area wide garage sale and the end of the fishing contest for this season.  The radio station in International Falls will broadcast from the Gateway General Store on Friday, with many prizes, tasty samples, sale items, lunch special and prizes prizes prizes.  Join us next year!  It is fun!

We have a fun, wild and crazy extended family in camp this week, with water sports and fishing!
Weather has settled down, somewhat warmer than last week.  Managers Ken and Deb had 8 keepers, mostly Saugers, yesterday.  The Petersons and Bublerls brought in fish too.  The Holts that released large Northern last week, has sent their pictures to the [email protected] and are now posted under photo gallery and Aug 3 to 10.  The smiles on their faces say it all.

See the photo of Jaime Maclean and his 23" Walleye and his big smile!  Guide/friend, Don Granger, gave Jaime, Carla and Jim the experience of fishing on Rainy Lake via portaging at Kettle Falls.  The cook fried the fish up, and they enjoyed a fresh, walleye shore lunch!  It was a great day for everyone.  Thanks for the photo.

The family here this week finished off the week with a fire works display.  Family from Texas, the Carrolls, graced us with their presence as often as they could.  Thanks to everyone, come again!

People tell us that to send a picture to us via [email protected] does not work.  Sorry about that and we will work on it.  In the mean time, please send your pictures and stories to Joan's email; [email protected]  We love to receive other people's photos.  Thank you.

Mostly fishing people in camp this week.  The Northern are really biting!  Gus from Indiana released the big 42" seen on the photo gallery; Heather Holt from Iowa, released a 38" and 42".  Gorby Holt released a 37".  There are some nice walleye too, for keeps and fish meal, (see the photo gallery for their latest catch). The Greens from Mo. went to Kettle Falls for lunch and caught nice walleye up there.  The Hers from Mpls., are having a nice time with family that live up here.
